Every issue Japanese publication BRAIN magazine tasks artists and designers with creating a cover image relating to a single colour. For the May issue Rice Creative, an agency based in Ho Chi Minh City, were given the brief ‘Strawberry Red’.
Rice Creative’s answer to this challenging brief was the superb typographic installation shown below, which was created by blasting strawberry purée over a stencil covering three separate walls. From a distance the characters read ‘strawberry red’ in Japanese, a wonderful didactic approach that the agency also felt functioned as a ‘giant and perfect dictionary entry’. Up close however the word distorts and the viewer simply becomes absorbed in the experience of Strawberry Red.
This is a remarkable project and the above summary doesn’t really do the process the agency went through to conceive and execute this idea justice, so I’d encourage you to follow the link below to find out more. The rest of Rice Creative’s brilliant portfolio is definitely worth a look too!
