Pop-Up Generation
James Victore is a renowned author, designer, filmmaker and ‘firestarter’ based in New York. For those not already familiar with his work, his Behance folio contains some great examples of calligraphy and hand lettering. The identity, poster and book shown below were designed for ‘Pop-Up Generation’, which was an exhibition that ‘highlights a new generation of artists, designers and graduates by exploring their vision, work and motivations’. To find out more about ‘Pop-Up Generation’ I’d recommend reading this great article.
The lettering for the identity has been finger painted, which not only is a great way to reference the visual arts, but gives the letter forms a unique three-dimensional quality. Most importantly though it brings a ‘fun’ tone of voice to the whole affair — ‘Technology is great, but nothing beats the fun of finger painting’.
