Anagrama continue to amaze! Every single time I visit their folio site there’s something new! This identity particularly drew my eye due to the use of a custom typeface designed by the studio and the stark black and white colour palette.
It was designed for a ‘promoter and distributor label for both Mexican and international auteur film’ and it was the client’s love of cinema that informed the development of their new custom typeface. The letterforms are based on the type seen in the title sequence for the 1964 French Nouvelle vague film Bande à Part, which was considered by many to be ahead of its time. The typeface’s bold aesthetic is contrasted by the functional, yet elegant qualities of Georgia which plays a supporting role throughout.
